Ama Waterways River Cruising Blog

Having arrived at Amsterdam Central Station, I was surprised how close and within walking distance of the new Ama Kristina ship which was built in 2016 and launched in September 2017!

For us, it was our first time to sample a River cruise so quite excited the whole concept!

On arrival, we were greeted by very friendly and efficient porters who carried our luggage on board. The check-in process was flawless and within minutes, our cabin steward escorted us to our cabin which was on Cello deck!  I could not help but notice that all the decks had been named after musical instruments other than the Sun deck of course!  Nice touch I feel!

The cabin door opened and what a lovely surprise awaits us.  The double balcony was a real plus giving the advantage of sitting inside or outside, weather depending!  Looking around, these cabins have been designed with great care and attention to cater for all the needs a client may have.  The Apple mac TV system, well positioned with a separate key board allowing it to be converted to a personal computer! Wow, definitely like that idea!  The light and airy cabin with bright co-ordinating luxurious fabrics, not forgetting the extras – dressing gowns, slippers, personal adaptor kits, very easy to use safe and even a little manual type alarm clock for ease!

Now, time to explore this wonderful ship so here we go-

The bar area had an array of luxury about it.  The seating areas have been created using a variety of tasteful fabrics which worked wonderfully together creating space and allowing people not to feel over- crowded and pressured in any way.

The dining area had a combination of centrally positioned booths and displaying a perimeter of tables of various sizes to accommodate most requirements thus allowing privacy if needed!

I met many of the staff whilst looking around and thought that they all appeared very friendly and happy indeed.  On observation, they were all attentive, yet somewhat relaxed in their approach which I particularly liked.

The beautiful Sun Deck is a credit to the ship.  It projects such a modern vessel and with great a usage of space.  A beautiful swimming pool, I have to say that I found myself asking the question?

“How warm is the water?”  but to my surprise they answered 30 degrees!  I have to say that I did not expect that!  And the running / walking track and a large amount of on board bicycles, all looking well maintained all ready for the clients to use on land excursions – what a great idea!

Having a closer look on the ship, I came across a fitness room, massage & hair salon!  What else could anyone possibly ask for I ask myself?  It’s got everything! ?

That evening, we had dinner at 6.30 and we were provided with a menu that would appeal to all.  Chef’s recommendations to the left and open choices to the right plus my waiter said if I did not like anything then please say and he will contact the Chef!  What else could I say other than PERFECT!  Oh, and the wine was lovely, great choices and my glass was automatically topped up along with my water so great combination!  I have to say that I enjoyed my meal from start to finish.  The waiter asked if I had enjoyed my meal and in my case, the answer was a clear YES!

The next morning, we had breakfast and the service was brilliant.  Great choice throughout catering for all types of dietary needs.  The same at lunch time and I noticed that everyone seemed really happy with all of the meals provided as such care and attention had been put in to the menu preparation.

Returning to our cabin –  beds made, daily newsletter left, excursion details provided plus a personal gift and an exclusive invitation to the Chef’s table that evening – WOW, exciting I have to say!

So, that evening we made our way to the Chef’s table which was such a memorable experience.   We were able to see our chef hand cook our what seemed like endless courses but I think maybe six in total.  All so perfectly formed with perfection to detail – absolutely amazing to be honest!

And to conclude –  as I have said previously, this was my first taster trip for River cruising courteous of Ama Waterways.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself on this truly luxurious ship and would definitely recommend this type of holiday to future clients and would consider doing something similar myself in the near future.

I would like to thank all the management and colleagues from Ama Waterways who helped to coordinate this trip.
